'Churchill's Triumph' was a miracle of a finale to the series. A bittersweet story so achingly told, with the characterisations almost as if you had sat there with them and smelled the caviar... For what my view is worth mate, you are way up there with Martin Gilbert, and WSC himself. Nick L., Hull.Your books have given me a great deal of pleasure because I know the facts are so real despite these being novels. These few lines are to show my deep appreciation for your superb writing. Barry S., Singapore.
My daughter (16) has just finished your latest Churchill having been an avid reader of the series. She loves them. She is also very very dyslexic! It is really the first book(s) she has ever been able to read with enthusiasm and joy. I am very grateful. Peter C.
I feel moved to write to you, not just to thank you for the pleasure you have given me in reading ‘Churchill's Hour’ but for your motive in writing it. Like Churchill, you have gauged your audience and written for history. Nigel M J
Thank you for such entertaining, witty and humorous writing. I dread bringing your books from the library as I cannot easily put them down, so housework gets pushed to the back of the queue. I have just finished ‘Never Surrender’, and am now looking for ‘Winston's War’ and ‘The Buddha of Brewer Street’. Many, many thanks for the pleasure you have given me. I admire your talent. Eileen B
Hello there, I am 16 years old, and have just read you FANTASTIC novels with Mr Francis Urquhart. I was indulged and have highly recommended them to my friends. I heard about the TV series with Ian Richardson… Can I ask whether any of the killings may have been committed similar to any during Mrs Thatcher's reign? Or will you reply "you might think that, but I couldn't possibly comment"? Write back soon, Yours Thankfully, Jack J. P.
I am sure you receive an incredible amount of mail praising your work, and have staff who read it all and respond in your name. Nevertheless, I add one more voice to the chorus. This is my first letter to an author. And I read a lot. I became familiar with your name from the PBS trilogy on the Francis Urquhart character. I admit I failed to warm to the character, although I was mesmerized by the tale. And then, I read the series featuring Tom Goodfellowe. Thank you for Tom Goodfellowe. I understand from critics and readers that you are a wizard writing of political shenanigans. I only see what the politicians allow us to see, so I accept you are wise in that area. But you are also wise in the way of the heart. You have given us Tom Goodfellowe who is human, vulnerable and charming. He struggles with needs and wants, ambition and loyalty, past and future. He is not perfect, nor is he touched by corruption. He's someone we all can identify with. Someone ordinary. Someone special. Just as we all are. Just as we all want to be. The series on Tom was a great read. Thank you. Please give us one more book on this character. Yours truly, Linda M
Hi, Just finished reading ‘Never Surrender’. Impressed would be an extreme understatement. As a poor amateur historian I'm bloody impressed with your grasp of the political and military issues. Just wish I could borrow your IQ. Kind Regards Chris N
Just a short note, just finished reading 'Winston's War' having received 'Never Surrender' as a Christmas present and therefore reading them the wrong way around! Thoroughly enjoyed both books, having never written to an author before I felt I must write to you as I just couldn't put these books down, they are both excellent!! Jonathan K
Dear Michael, Just finished ‘Never Surrender’, a gift from my daughter. Excellent read, my sort of book. Kind Regards, John D
Let me start by saying that after reading ‘Winston’s War’, I was totally and utterly hooked, for me, who has never really been keen on history, it has wet my appetite to read more about Churchill. I thoroughly enjoyed the book while I was on holiday and since I have returned I have bought and read ‘Never Surrender’. Geoff J
I have really enjoyed reading ‘Never Surrender’ which I found very moving in places. Your masterly writing created vivid images and you can almost see the devastation and hear Churchill's voice! Will you be signing in the Bournemouth area? or would you please let me know what bookshops you will attending so I can place an order for a signed copy of ‘Churchill's Hour’. Kind Regards. Colin
Since viewing ‘House of Cards’ on television I've been recommending your books to anyone I know with even a passing interest in politics and good novels. Any friend of mine who has three to four hours free gets my copy of the ‘House of Cards’ videos. So far, no one has been disappointed... and I don't expect anyone will. It took awhile before I could find your books... it was after seeing the third Urquhart instalment. Luckily, my mother-in-law had a friend grab all three while in England several years ago. In fact, I even grabbed another set of the Urquhart books while in London for my honeymoon over four years ago. I must say, as much as I love watching the miniseries trilogy your novel ‘The Final Cut’ supersedes the TV version. You probably don't mind hearing that. I read it while on vacation and couldn't put it down. Thanks for your work. Peter DeP, Richfield, MN, USA
I have just finished reading ‘Whispers of Betrayal’ which, as with the other two Goodfellowe books, I enjoyed immensely. Do you have plans for a fourth Goodfellowe book? If so I look forward to reading it the day it's published. Has any consideration been given to televising the series, and if so, who would be your ideal actor to play Goodfellowe? I couldn't help seeing Kevin Whately. Best regards, Glenn Baird
